FOCUS ON EDUCATION & FUND-RAISING
SDWC has consistently supported education for all ages. Members volunteer in Literacy Programs tutoring children and adults. The club also participates in the "First Book" project distributing books each year to the Community Resource Center and Head Start schools. At our annual Holiday meeting, each member brings a new book as a gift for a local elementary school library. Local public libraries receive annual support, and in 2006 a permanent endowment was established at Mira Costa College to fund a scholarship to a local student.
An annual garage sale helps SDWC raise funds to support it's philanthropies. In 2006-2007 a cookbook, "North Coast Recipes", was a very successful fund raising project. In 2008 & 2009, members sewed aprons, knit scarves & hats, and made other hand craft items for a holiday boutique celebrating the club's 75th anniversary.
